It’s a fact that you don’t always know when things are going to happen. You might think you do, but you don’t. Have protection. It doesn’t mean you need it in your pocket at all times, just where you can get to it if you need it. You don’t want to have to choose between having protection and having an STD in the heat of the moment, and it’s not something to fool around with.
Don’t ever forget that you usually get out of something what you put in (that annoying “you reap what you sow” adage that your grandfather might have told you, while he was sitting with straw in his teeth and a spittoon next to the rocking chair). If you go to events on campus, keep meeting new people, attend lectures that aren’t even required (gasp!), and maybe even do some community service, you’ll find the whole experience much more rewarding. You’ll feel like a part of the community, instead of just a student.
If you are very flexible, want to travel, and can tolerate low pay for a few years, this might be a great option for you. As a peace corps volunteer, you will make a difference in the lives of people in need. For advice on becoming a member of the Peace Corps, read “Ten Reasons to Join the Peace Corps” and “Pros and Cons of Joining the Peace Corps.” This will also look fabulous on your resume.

Prepare yourself with questions about your old job. Whether you were laid off or left on your own free will, have answers prepared for interviewers as to why you left your previous place of work. If you got laid off, don’t lie.
Suggest a visit to the campus career center. University career center are valuable yet often untapped resource centers that exist for the purpose of helping your kid find a job. Many schools have websites and phone lines also available to help if your child doesn’t live nearby their alma mater.
Don’t reinvent the resume. If you’re new to the world of job hunting, there are many resume templates and examples available for free online. It can be very helpful to see examples before you start creating your own version. Sometimes the very site where you want to post your resume offers tips and templates, so take advantage!
